Living a happier life doesn’t necessarily require a grand overhaul of your lifestyle or personality. Often, it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference. Here are 10 simple habits that you can incorporate into your daily routine to help you live a happier life:

1. Practice Gratitude
Every day, take a few moments to reflect on the things you’re grateful for. It could be as simple as a sunny day, a good meal, or a kind gesture from a friend. Focusing on the positive aspects of your life can boost your mood and help you maintain a more optimistic outlook. I know when I was in the throws of depression and my kids were little, this was hard to do. It’s as simple though, as finding a sliver of joy each day to keep you moving forward.
I created a gratitude journal that is available on Amazon! It’s a 31 day journal designed to help you Make Every Day Stellar. Check it out, here.
2. Get Enough Sleep
Adequate sleep is essential for our physical and mental well-being. Make sure you’re getting enough rest each night to help you feel refreshed and energized. If you need help sleeping, check out these Tips To Help You Sleep Better At Night. This is something I still navigate every day, but I am consistently getting at LEAST 7 hours of sleep a night. And that’s made a world of difference!
3. Move Your Body
Exercise is a great way to boost your mood and reduce stress. Find an activity you enjoy, whether it’s dancing, hiking, or yoga, and make it a regular part of your routine. Consistency is key here, and absolutely something I struggle with.
Lately, I’ve been joining Barre 3 classes and LOVING them. Katie is the greatest instructor and I’ve been SORE. I also walk my dog every day and that is truly something I love doing. Another way I get movement in, is through the YouTube account, GrowWithJo. Her indoor walks have been a game changer for how I workout, and I have been consistently walking with her.
4. Connect with Others
Humans are social creatures, and connecting with others is essential for our happiness. Whether it’s spending time with friends, joining a club or group, or volunteering, find ways to connect with others regularly. Personally, I’ve realized that I am way more introverted than I thought I was. So, connecting with others regularly is something I have to push myself to do. Working from home can get you into a groove and eventually a rut socially, if you aren’t aware and careful.
5. Learn Something New
Learning new skills or knowledge can be a great way to boost your self-confidence and improve your mood. Take up a new hobby, enroll in a class, or read a book on a topic that interests you. Like I mentioned, I’ve been joining Barre 3 classes here and there as a way to learn new things. Additionally, I love to crochet! I only know one stitch though. So, I’d like to try to learn more and expand my horizons there.
6. Take Breaks
Easier said than done! I get it. It’s easy to get caught up in our work or responsibilities and forget to take breaks. However, taking regular breaks throughout the day can help you recharge and maintain your focus and productivity.
Get outside, walk your dog, have lunch with a friend. You can even watch one episode of your favorite Netflix show! Just make sure it’s only one show if you don’t have time to binge watch. Regardless, a break within your day is necessary. Listen to yourself and make it happen.
7. Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment and accepting it without judgment. Practicing mindfulness can help you reduce stress and increase your overall sense of well-being. How do you do that? Meditation is a great place to start. I meditate on the Bible regularly and my favorite verses to help me keep perspective of my calling, my purpose, and my worth.
No matter how you do it, just make sure to take time to slow your mind down. You will feel so much better!
8. Practice Self-Care
That’s literally what this entire blog is about. Not just this post, the whole blog. HA. But, taking care of yourself is essential for your happiness. This could mean anything from taking a relaxing bath, to treating yourself, to a massage or indulging in your favorite hobby. I love using my LumiSpa as a way to sneak in two minutes twice daily of self care. It really doesn’t have to be complicated!
9. Express Gratitude
In addition to practicing gratitude, expressing gratitude to others can also boost your happiness. Take the time to thank someone who has helped you or made a positive impact on your life. I found the cutest thank you cards as a great place to start! Stock up on these and use them as an opportunity to spread even small amounts of kindness.
10. Cultivate Positive Relationships
Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people can have a significant impact on your happiness. Make an effort to cultivate and nurture relationships with those who uplift and inspire you. Again, I know this can be easier said than done. But, you are the average of the top five people you spend your time with. What are they pouring into you? As a result, what is pouring out? Take inventory of your current relationships and take steps to adjusting. It might be challenging, but adding positivity is never going to let you down in the long run.
