4 Great Breakfasts To Help Fight Depression

1. Avocado Toast

Avocados contain healthy fats that your brain needs in order to function perfectly. They are enriched with lutein, beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin B, as well as vitamins C and E12. Also, they contain more folate compared to other fruits. They are rich in protein and the amino acid tryptophan which can increase serotonin production. That is considered the ‘mood regulating hormone’. Mash up an avocado, add some salt and pepper, and spread onto a piece of gluten-free toasted bread for a fabulous start to the day!

2. Berries

Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) are one of the families of fruits that contain the highest antioxidants. However, blueberries are ranked first! They are rich in vitamin C which is believed to effectively combat stress and reduce blood pressure. Grab a bowl full of berries and enjoy it with a small bowl of yogurt, Kiefer, or even oatmeal and a great boost of vitamins to your mental health.

4. High Protein Power Bowl

What exactly is a power bowl? It’s a meal or bowl packed with power foods that can help your brain to function at it’s best. A power bowl typically consists of four things: Grains, Vegetables or Fruit, Protein, and Dressing. For a great breakfast idea, you could add rolled oats, blueberries, cranberries, chia seeds, Greek yogurt, my favorite protein powder and maple syrup. Add it all in and gobble it up! Here’s a great recipe that you might love.

In conclusion, depression is actually super serious. It can’t typically be fought with foods alone. That will depend on your own circumstances and chemistry. You, your doctor and/or therapist know what’s best so follow their lead. I have struggled with depression for my whole life. While I am under a doctors care, I do find that the foods I eat (or don’t eat) tend to influence the way I feel throughout the day. So why not set yourself up for the best success possible? You’re a busy working mom who matters to a lot of people. What you put into your body is important. Why not start the day out right?
