1. Set Realistic Expectations

It’s essential to know what your limits are. Don’t overload your morning with lists that are miles long and unachievable. What are the most important things that need to get done? What just isn’t possible? If you have good intentions to workout in the mornings but it’s always too hectic to fit it in, then consider moving your workout to a more realistic time slot. You might have every desire to conquer the world in the mornings, but there is only so much time to do it in. Make a list of what NEEDS to get done each and every morning. Then, set realistic expectations for how much time you will need to accomplish it. This will vary depending on the personalities and specific needs for your family. However, it’s important to reevaluate before you dive into an unrealistic routine.

2. Do What You Can The Night Before To Streamline

As I mentioned above, there is only so much time inside each and every morning. Why pack an insane about of ‘to-dos’ in your morning when you can spread out some of the tasks? For example, if you need to pack lunches for your kids or your husband, why not consider packing them the night before? It could shave twenty minutes off your morning routine and it’s one less thing you need to think about as you’re trying to rush everyone out the door. Lay out clothes, pack lunches, backpacks and get everyones water bottles ready the night before. It’s those little things that take away extra minutes and you’ll have peace of mind knowing that they are all complete and ready to go when you need it.

3. Get Up Early

It is hard to get up when that alarm hits. You might be tempted to hit snooze until the last possible minute, but that’s just not doing anyone any favors. By getting up earlier than everyone else in your family, it gives you extra time to get a jump on the day. What could you do with that extra time? Read your Bible, get ahead on emails, check in on your social media or even prep breakfast. Maybe the extra early morning time is enough to allow you to get showered, dressed and ready to head to the office! Whatever it may be, don’t snooze your way into a situation that is stressful. Yes, it can be a challenge to get up in the mornings. But, it’s always a good choice because it provides time for everyone to be human in the morning. And when you’re at ease, your family will be at ease too.

4. Consider Using A Morning Chore Chart

Having a designated spot where everyone can see what they need to get done is a great what to streamline your morning routine. Using a morning chore chart can help set expectations for what they need to get done each morning. Writing what time it needs to all be completed by at the top of the chart is helpful so bigger kids can manage their own time and take ownership of being ready to go. I really like THIS chore chart for the mornings. It’s a great solution to help your family take control of what they need to do, instead of relying on you to do it all.

5. Make List Making Fun Again

This doesn’t need to be complicated. Get a notepad that is specifically for morning routines, get some really fun gel pens, and start list making! Write down everything that needs to get done from the most important to the least important. You can even have a “wish list” at the bottom. This would be items that you’d like to do, but ONLY if everything else on the list gets completed and there’s time left over. Check each item off as you move through your morning. This can help ensure that everything gets done and that nothing is forgotten. Plus, it will keep your organized. Also, it’s a simple way to feel like you’re in control when the mornings can feel hectic and rushed.

In conclusion, there are a million other ways that you could streamline your morning routines. These are the few ways that I have found success to help set my family up well. It’s important to keep it simple and very realistic for the needs of your family. Start small. There is no need to stress yourself out over this. If what you’re currently doing isn’t working, try using even one of these tips to see if it could help. Add in more as you go. The art of the “morning routine” is always changing because your family is always changing. Be patient with yourself and do the best you can. Remember, you’re an amazing mom who just wants to do her best. So, stay focused on the positive and just keep going!
