1. Find A Company You Align With And Join
The options in this first step, are endless. There are so many affiliate programs as well as products to offer that can help you to generate a stream of income. My biggest advice? Don’t just join to join. Make sure you align with the company so you can wholeheartedly promote what it is they have to offer. Alignment is an important word here. You can like a lot of companies, but do you truly align?
For me, I chose to align with Nu Skin. They have been around for 40 years, are publicly traded on the NYSE, and are constantly innovating. Not to mention, the heartbeat of the company is to encourage, edify, inspire and change lives. That’s basically what I’m all about! Once I fell in love with the products (immediately), I learned about Nu Skin as a company. From there, it was a no brainer. I aligned perfectly with the vision they were casting and what they are all about. The choice was simple.
2. Become A Product Of The Product
You really need to love the products in order to promote them. Your enthusiasm (or even lack thereof) will translate to your audience. People aren’t stupid. They can tell whether you’re trying to make a buck or whether you really love the products. So make sure you really love the products!
I decided to start with the company I chose (Nu Skin) because I LOVED the products so much. At the time, I started with the infamous whitening toothpaste. And I had such incredible results that I knew I was sitting on something special. From there, I tried any and all of the products that I could and truly became a product of the products. I haven’t used another toothpaste in five years! I believe in the products that I offer. If I didn’t sell them, I would still use them. This then, makes it easier for me to share them online! I already share the things I love, so this is an effortlessly flow.
3. Make Sure You Can Generate The Links You Want
This was a big one for me. I wanted to be able to share the products that were relevant to MY audience. Not products that the company was requiring us to share. I needed to know that my customers could buy quickly, freely and that I was able to generate links that were specific to their needs.
At Nu Skin, I can personalize any links for any of the products that I need or want to promote. There is no end to how many links I could generate. I can generate them for my customers individually, as a group offer and also links for other platforms like Pinterest and my blog. The bottom line? 4. Ensure That You Will Get Paid More Than 3%
Read the fine print. Many affiliate companies or opportunities will generate links for you based on the products they want you to promote. Then, when your audience shops the link THAT’s when you have the opportunity to earn 3-5% of the sale.
This was a big NO for me.
If I’m going to share something with my audience and they are going to trust me enough to buy from me, I want to make as much as I possibly can. Too many influencers and digital creators are settling for 3%. That can be good if you have a large following, but what about the rest of us? I wanted to know that the time I spent was well worth it. Therefore, I wanted to make 25-50% per sale when someone shopped my link.
And, depending on the product, I found just that at Nu Skin. Every time someone shops with me, I have the opportunity to make 25-50% on EACH sale. That was huge for me. Make sure you find a company that will pay you what you’re worth. Being a digital creator is a lot of work, no matter how big or small your following is. You deserve to be paid!
5. Share & Scale
Being able to share the products that you love and make a good percentage each time will give you the opportunity to scale. When it comes to scaling, most people thing you need to have a huge audience to do that. Certainly, having a large network is always a great idea. However, if you don’t currently have that you can still learn how to sponsor yourself and make a very good income right where you are! Just ensure that you are in the right vehicle where you CAN scale.
In conclusion, sponsoring yourself is all about choices. Do you have to rely on the company to feed you the links to promote? Or, are you limited in what you can share and how much you can make? When you sponsor yourself, YOU are the one in control. You have the ability to share and promote the right products for you AND to get paid the full amount that you are worth.
