If you’re like me, then you love mornings. They’re quiet, dark, and a great time to get your mind ready for the day. This has been an acquired taste, however. I had to learn how to get up early. Mostly, it was a necessity from running businesses and having small kids. But, I adapted and it’s became one of most treasured times. There are a lot of different ways you can run your mornings. I have found a few things that are non-negotiable for me and help me get started right. Here is my Top 5 Morning Routine Checklist.
Top 5 Morning Routine Checklist
1. Nespresso
I love coffee. I don’t like starting my mornings without it. Not only do I love the taste of it, but I enjoy the ritual of brewing a cup of coffee and sitting down to drink it before anyone else gets up. And THAT is a priority for me. No matter what’s going on in my day that lies ahead, I NEVER let my cup of coffee go cold. And that’s not because of a coffee warmer. That’s because I wake up early enough to make sure it’s gone before anyone else wakes up.
I know, I’m crazy.
However, it’s proven to really help me out a lot mentally, so it’s a priority. Jason and I got a Nespresso Machine a year ago last Christmas. And, it was a game changer. The coffee is so good, it’s frothy, it’s smooth. Literally, it’s so perfect. We have our coffee pods on subscription so they just arrive every month to our doorstep. GENIUS. We love it, and I know you will too.
2. A Book To Read
I am always reading books. When they’re on Audible, I listen to them as I walk my dog. But, in the quiet mornings I like to have a physical book. After I take time to read my Bible, I journal my gratitudes for the day and then read another book of my choice. Right now, I’m reading The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. It’s a great ready packed with ideas for how to make your mornings awesome. Not to mention, I also got this book light to use because sometimes my house is pretty dark. Even with the lights dimly on, this gives me a little extra boost of light to see.
3. Face Wash
Washing my face is an essential part of my morning routine. I never go without doing it, and it really helps refresh my skin. Most mornings, I use my Lumi Spa. Sometimes however, I use this amazing Vitamin C face wash that gives my skin a boost of vitamins. Three times a week I follow it up with this Brighter Day Exfoliant Scrub and it feels SO good. There is nothing like a super quick pamper session to help this busy working mom feel her best!
4. Exercise
I make it a point to move my body every single day. We got our dog, Bear, almost 2 years ago now and that has really helped! He and I go for walks every day and the length of the walk gets longer and longer. We typically now walk about 2 miles a day. This helps me to stay moving, which can be a challenge when you work from home. It also gets me outside and takes care of my health. Generally, I get our walk in before I start any type of work. So, this makes it an essential part of my Top 5 Morning Routine Checklist.
My encouragement in this area: Find something you enjoy and do it every day. For me, it just started with me walking up and down my street. Now, I walk all over my neighborhood and LOVE it so much! I crave the walks I take with Bear and I look forward to them every day. Losing weight isn’t necessarily my goal. But, starting the morning positively and with joy, IS.
5. Eat Breakfast
I know that the jury is out on this one. Most people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Some like to intermittent fast which can mean skipping breakfast. For me? I have to eat. I don’t eat too early. Usually around 9/9:30 is when I get my breakfast in. I have been weighing all of my food on a scale similar to THIS one. What I have found, is the my meals need to be higher in protein. That is when I feel my best. I love TR90 Protein Boost from Nu Skin. It’s filling, tastes great, and ships right to my door. What could be better?
So to recap: I like to wake up early, have my favorite coffee, read, reflect and journal. Then I wash my face, go for a long walk and have high protein breakfast. It seems too simple, and maybe it is. But, what I’ve found is that the more complicated you make things, the harder they are to sustain.
Keep it simple. Do what makes you happiest in this area. Push yourself to try something new or to wake up just a little bit earlier. You might not enjoy it at first, but over time, you’ll come to love the morning routine you choose.
